My Husband Lost His Phone Until A Stranger Revealed Where He Found It

1

Julian has always been the kind of man who notices small things.

Not just birthdays and anniversaries. Anybody can remember those. You put them in your phone. The phone reminds you. You buy flowers. Done.

Julian notices the other stuff.

He notices when I’ve had a bad day before I even say a word. He’ll look at me across the kitchen when I walk in the door, and he’ll just know. Something about my shoulders, he says. Or the way I set my keys down.

He remembers which snack I reach for when I’m stressed. Salt and vinegar chips. The kettle-cooked kind. When I have a big deadline at work, a bag of them just appears on my desk at home. I never see him put it there.

And he knows the date my grandmother died.

My grandmother’s name was Ruth. She raised me for a big part of my childhood, after my parents split up and my mom was working two jobs. I lived with her from when I was seven until I was twelve. In her little yellow house on Poplar Street, with the tomato plants in the backyard and the radio always playing old country music.

She died nine years ago. On March 14th.

For the first few years, I talked about it every March. I’d get quiet. I’d cry a little. I’d tell Julian stories about her. How she could whistle through her fingers louder than any man. How she cheated at Scrabble and never once admitted it.

After a while, I stopped mentioning the date. I didn’t want to be sad every March forever. I didn’t want to make it Julian’s problem.

But three years ago, on March 14th, Julian came home from work carrying a single sunflower.

What happened next changed everything… FULL STORY on the next page.
