I never saw an air conditioned kitchen in my life. He showed us his house, served us drinks and put on Netflix for us.
About an hour later, his doorbell rang. He had that camera thing that shows who’s at the gate, so he looked.
Then his whole demeanor changed.
This man rushed to the guest bathroom and started filling the bathtub with water.
Then he gathered some clothes in the bathroom, went to get a box of washing powder, came to put off the tv and told us to get in the bathroom and start washing. Ei.
Wash what? Why?
How?
He simply said, “If you know what is good for you start washing.
” He went and opened the gate.
When the two women walked in, we understood. They were thick tall, buxom, well built women with no nonsense written all over them.
One said, “Adusei, y’ate sɛ wode school girls bi abɛhyɛ ha, ɔmo wɔ he? ” (Translated: Adusei we hear you’ve brought some school girls over here where are they?
) Adusei said, “The washing machine broke so I invited them to wash my stuff.
Leave them alone, they’re just doing a job after which I’ll pay them.
”
The women stayed, had drinks, watched Grey’s Anatomy, conversed and had a good time while Abi and I were forced to wash clothes with our acrylic nails, something I don’t do in my own home. We hoped this man would find a way to ‘rescue’ but no!
The thing pain me eh! What annoyed me most was the ladies kept coming into the bathroom with snarky comments about how we had makeup and long nails etc.
Eventually Abi told Adusei we needed to go open our door for our mother because she didn’t take her key when she went to work.
That’s how we escaped after washing half of the laundry for free.
It turned out his wife was in a business trip. And those women were her sisters who had been tipped off by a neighbor that we were in the house.
When we told our older sister, she laughed so hard she cried. And Adusei didn’t stop, he still tried to get Abi to go on a date with him.
She told him, “No, thank you.
”
Lesson learned.
